IT’S WAFFLIN' TIME
NOTE: this ride will only go ahead if there’s sufficient interest - I get that it’s Easter weekend and people may be off doing other things. If it doesn’t happen on the 19th, then it’ll probably take place on the 26th instead.
This is a relatively short ride (35 miles) as I’m having problems with ulnar nerve compression as a result of last Saturday’s ride on utterly horrendous road surfaces (North Yorkshire County Council clearly didn’t get the memo about the availability of tarmac)
The destination is Curlew Fields Dairy in Hessay which is new (to me) and comes recommended by one of my co-workers. It’s not a direct route, deary me no, in that it heads out to Tadcaster before doubling back and meandering to Hessay along back lanes which, whilst officially classified as roads, may actually be a series of potholes joined by occasional stretches of tarmac. You may wish to consider dropping your tyre pressures a wee bit …
There’s a short stretch of bridleway between Rufforth and Knapton, which is the lesser of two evils when the alternative is jousting with Easter traffic on the Wetherby road. Crossing the ring road will be done via an underpass just outside Knapton, whereafter it’s a meander through the suburbs back to Cycle Heaven.
Usual rules apply - nobody gets dropped and pace will be kept sensible (moving average of around 20-22kph is normal, depending on terrain, weather and other factors). If you’re running a GPS, please endeavour to download the route onto your unit beforehand in case the group does get split up.
9.30am start from https://www.cycle-heaven.co.uk/ - for those who wish to indulge, bacon sandwiches, tea and cake can be obtained from the cafe from 9am. If you wish to join us en-route, let Simon know (email: simon{at}straggleurs{dot}org{dot}uk
) and we’ll endeavour to accomodate you.
